Itinerary | Ireland | The Five Kingdoms

This itinerary explores the entire island of Ireland, which was originally five kingdoms. Ireland is currently divided into two countries: The Republic of Ireland (formerly the overkingdoms of Leinster, Muster, Connacht, and Meath), and Northern Ireland (formerly the overkingdom of Ulster).

Highlights of Ulster: The Giant's Causeway, The Glens of Antrim, The Rope Bridge at Carrick-a-Reed, Dunluce Castle, and the Harland & Wolff dockyards (where the Titanic was built).

Highlights of Leinster: Dublin City, home to Trinity College and the Book of Kells, Temple Bar, Christchurch Cathedral (founded by the Vikings), and Kilmainham Gaol; Glendalough, a monastic settlement from the 6th century; Newgrange, a tomb from 3200BC (older than the pyramids), and Tullynally Castle;

Highlights of Connacht: The Cliffs of Moher, King John's Castle in Limerick, lunch at Bunratty Castle, and shopping in Galway.

Highlights of Munster: Kissing the Blarney Stone, The Rock of Cashel, The Titanic Experience, and shopping in Cork.

Highlights of Meath: River Cruise on the Shannon, Clonmacnoise (a Monastery settled in 546), and our home base of Tullamore (a bustling little town at the center of Ireland).

2Tullamore

Private transfer from Dublin to farmhouse accommodations in the center of Ireland where we’ll unpack and head to the dining room to experience the renowned Full Irish Breakfast. After breakfast we depart for a boat ride along the Shannon to Clonmacnoise (a monastery settled in 546). Guided tour of the Tullamore Dew distillery followed by early dinner (you will have been awake 18 hours).
3Dublin CityTrain to Dublin. Visit the Book of Kells Exhibit at Trinity College. Lunch in Temple Bar. Visit Christchurch Cathedral (founded in 1028 by a Viking King) then St. Patrick’s Cathedral (built over a well where St.Patrick performed baptisms). Take a sobering tour through Kilmainham Gaol and then lighten up with a tour of the Guinness Brewery. Dinner at the Brazen Head, Dublin’s oldest pub.
4Blarney Castle
(The South)
Day trip to Blarney Castle where we’ll be “Blessed with the Gift of the Gab” when we kiss the Blarney Stone. Along the way we’ll stop and explore the Rock of Cashel, take in the Titanic Experience in Cobh. Lunch/Shopping in Cork. Dinner at Blarney Castle.
5Glendalough
(The East)
Explore the St. Kevin’s 6th century monastic settlement at Glendalough. Lunch high in the Dublin Mountains at Johnnie Fox’s Traditional Irish Pub. Tour Newgrange, a passage tomb built around 3200BC (older than the Egyptian Pyramid tombs). Study Muiredach’s High Cross at Monasterboice and then continue on to explore Tullynally Castle. Dinner in Mullingar.
6Cliffs of Moher
(The West)
Day trip to see the Cliffs of Moher. Along the way we’ll stop in Limerick to explore King John’s Castle, grab lunch at Bunratty Castle, and shopping in Galway before a Farewell Dinner.
7AirborneEnjoy a farewell Full Irish Breakfast before boarding our private transport to the airport. Slainté!
