Old Quebec City, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, is one of the few historical areas in North America to have fully preserved its Francophone culture and it's European feel, history, culture and warmth have made it a favorite destination for French students. Our trip explores the narrow cobbled streets, 17th- and 18th- century houses, historical buildings, universities, convents and churches, plazas and parks, shops and restaurants of the fortified historical district which is is a pleasure to explore on foot.
We’ll stay at the oldest (and the best located) hotel in Old Québec, breakfast and dine at some of the best restaurants, walk the most significant streets with a professional guide, and tour inside some of the most interesting buildings. We’ll head outside Québec City to tour the stunning Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and marvel at the Montmorency Falls from its observation decks and the suspension bridge that spans the Montmorency.
This itinerary puts a winter spin on our classic Quebec City trip. Just like our classic trip, we'll explore Old Quebec - the historic district of the city - which feels like an old European city with its narrow cobbled streets, historical buildings, universities, convents and churches, plazas and parks, shops and restaurants. We'll also head outside Quebec City to tour the stunning Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and marvel at the Montmorency Falls from the suspension bridge that crosses the Montmorency River where it cascades down to the Saint Lawrence River. What makes the winter adventure special is the guided tour through the ephemeral Hôtel de Glace, dog-sledding through the maple trees in the woods outside Quebec, an evening of traditional food and entertainment at a Sugar Shack, and Valcartier Winter Park with its wide range of snow tubing runs including the Tornado, Everest, and Himalaya.
Quebec City is the ideal jumping-off point to show students the great Canadian outdoors while also learning about Quebecois history, language, and culture. It's fortified historical district, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, is one of the few historical areas in North America to have fully preserved its Francophone culture, and its European feel has made it a favorite destination for French students. Like our classic Quebec City experience we'll explore the narrow cobbled streets, 17th- and 18th- century houses, historical buildings, universities, convents and churches, plazas and parks, shops and restaurants of the fortified historical district. We will also take advantage of summer weather, venturing outside the city walls for a bike ride and daring zipline over the Montmorency Falls, kayaking on the Saint Lawrence River, and hiking in the Parc National de la Jacques Cartier!
Montreal, second only to Paris in the ranks of French-speaking cities, is the cultural capital of Quebec. Known for being an intersection of Québécois, Canadian, and international identities, Montreal offers a unique opportunity to learn not only about Canadian history but also contemporary Québécois culture. It’s situation as a bilingual city also offers the ideal environment to practice French skills, from beginners to advanced speakers. We will explore all this city has to offer, from the historic Old Port, to the modern downtown, and the beautiful parks and open spaces.
For groups traveling to Quebec over a school break we recommend visiting both cities! Montreal, second only to Paris in the ranks of French-speaking cities, is the cultural capital of Québec. It's historic port district, the modern downtown, and the beautiful parks and open spaces the city has to offer should not to be missed if you're visiting Quebec for more than a few days. Quebec City is much smaller, but the historic district - recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 - is larger and has fully preserved it's European feel, history, culture and warmth. The journey to Quebec City from Montreal provides a perfect opportunity to tour the stunning Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and marvel at Montmorency Falls where the Montmorency River cascades down into the Saint Lawrence River.
